Another attempt to grab the moral high ground that ignores the fact that
some serious issues were at stake, specifically about the Former Yugoslavia
(e.g. what is the source of the conflict, and what if anything can the
outside world do about it?) and a broader issue of of
political-argumentative style (i.e. disguising ad hominem and sectarian
points of view behind a pose staked as the very opposite).

Argument is rough, espeically if it's about serious and fundamental issues.
Psychologizing and doing penance solve nothing.
