modes of production
- Subject: modes of production

Concerning transitions from one mode of production to another, it
shouldn't be supposed that all societies everywhere have followed or will
follow the same trajectory. For example, the type of society we call
feudalism really flourished only in western Europe (and Japan too?)
Elsewhere there was what Marx referred to as the "Asiatic mode of
production" (Oriental despotism) with different characteristics that
should not be conflated with "feudalism."
