I don't remember if I afflicted this list with this anecdote before, but
here it is, and maybe again.

Donald Barthelme recalled going out to lunch with his IRS auditor and
telling her that we were all just systems of discourses, the IRS, him,
everything around them, his mode of doing taxes, the IRS's mode of doing
taxes, etc. The auditor responded, yes, but mine has subpoena power.
