NEWS RELEASE
For Immediate Release
June 22, 2000
YOUTH GROUPS AND HIP-HOP PERSONALITIES EXPRESS
OUTRAGE ON CENTRAL PARK CASE
NEW YORK - Youth groups, clubs and popular hip-hop artists from across
New York City have come together to launch a campaign to put an end to the
negative element in the community that has instigated this rise of
criminal activity such as the one that occurred in Central Park. Youth
leader of
The Code Foundation, Erica Ford, states, "the criminalization of Black and
Latino youth must come to an end." A Press Conference will be held on
Tuesday,
June 27, 2000 at Columbus Circle (59th Street & Broadway) in Manhattan. The
press conference will begin at 5:00 p.m.
Black and Latino youth who are tired of the madness that is going on in
our streets must come together and take a step toward putting a new positive
code of conduct in the streets. A society that uses sex to sell everything,
and
puts more money into building jails than educating young people can not
solve problems such as the Central Park situation. "This society creates
the conditions that makes violence and rape fashionable" added Erica Ford.

To sign on or make a statement at the press conference please call Erica
or Loretta at 718 399-8532 or 718 398-1766
