It's okay -- everybody calls them that, despite the history of the

Back then i think most servants were unmarried women. they lived with
their parents, or with their employers. Don't mean to belittle their
awful life--when WW1 came along, domestic workers leaped at the chance
to work in factories etc, and basically never went back. If you saw
Upstairs/downstairs, you'll remember how Rose became a busdriver and
loved it.
