Hiphop
Just for the record, I never said anything remotely suggesting that
hiphop is to blame for the Central park assaults. My point was just to
query what seems to me like the Audre Lorde center statement's
contentless boilerplate of claiming that hiphop was involved in the
"daily struggles" for "women's rights" and "feminist justice." I'd just
like to see a bit of factual backing for that pious wish!
I do think the rap I've heard is pretty awful in its gender ideas, and
I HATE it as music. But that is not to say that it causes violence
against women, much less a specific act of violence.
Hiphop is not just poor people's entertainment, btw. Most rap records
are bought by white suburban teenage boys.
