Sometimes life gets busy, and I don't get a chance to read my list email in a timely manner.  Then I find myself catching up, or skimming emails, or deleting them altogether, convinced that following the thread is not feasible.  So I have only recently begun looking at this particular set of emails.

And what strikes me about this correspondence has absolutely nothing to do with its content.  What strikes me is how nasty it is, and how the nastiness seems to have originated with you, Mr. Jones.

You know, I've occasionally gone toe to toe with email folks --- perhaps not on M-Fem, but on other lists.  I've even had profound disagreement with Katha over the net.  But we never got nasty.  That allowed us to stay focused on the issue, and examine it in more detail.  Katha and I never did resolve the issue, we ended up agreeing to disagree.  BUT I ended up having great respect for her and considering important points I might have not considered, or not considered as thoughtfully as she made me do (and I sincerely hope she can report the same).  I think the online nature of the discussion was helpful to others as well.

I know it's easy to get incensed and release some vitriol over the net, it's both anonymous and personal, but this is really awful.  Please consider your words before you post them.  Discussion and debate is helpful.  This is not.
