That may be true for many American workers ... but it's
not true for all American workers. In the area where I
live, there are plenty of socialists ... both Communists
and other kinds of socialists as well. I, for instance,
am a Pacifist-Socialist. (The term "Pacifist" as found
in "Pacifist-Socialist" refers not to extreme pacifism,
but to moderate pacifism.)
I don't know whether this is just where I live, or
whether the attitudes of Americans are starting to
change ... but I *do* know that your description
does *not* apply to *all* Americans.
So basically, I agree that there *exist* Americans who
fit the description you give ... but not all American
workers are that way. I think I ran into the type you
describe a *lot* more often a few years ago than I do
*now*. Whether this reflects a change in American
or simply a change in what neighborhood I live in is
another matter.
