Re: Prof. combats ignorance about Islam, women

Remember Marx was not a Marxist. But by that joke he meant to say that many people who passionately thought of themselves as "Marxists" did not follow his teachings. Marxists are practicers of Marx's authentic philosophy, and from early on there have been those who sincerely practiced counterfeits.

Of course, today, Marx is not around to authenticate, but it is Marxist to consider that there is some discipline involved in being a Marxist.

In this case, the first term is the relevant comparison, since we're
talking about bodies of thought, Marxism and feminism. I suspect that
most people I'd call neoclassical economists wouldn't object to the
term. There are left economists who use neoclassical techniques, but
that wouldn't make them "neoclassical economists." The people you are
saying aren't feminists or Marxists passionately think themselves one
or both, and most other people in society would probably accept their
self-identification. So how do you decide their self-identifications
are wrong?
