next to the Howling Cow Cafe
$3 for students w/ID and $5 general
Doors at 7:30 pm
Live! Nude! Girls! UNITE! is a film about the unionization of the Lusty
Lady, an SF strip joint. Filmed by Julia Query, a well-known performance
artists, and stripper; the film depicts how these women found strength
against their exploiters and created the first union for strippers. UNITE!
shows the complicated emotions around sex work without making simplistic or
pat declarations.
>From sleazy strip club owners threatening violence to a character who tells
her Jewish mama that she's a stripper, this personal/political documentary
is funny and fierce, serious and sexy. Footage of labor organizing and
strikes are woven with performances (comedy, music, dance), animation and
compelling accounts of the "life" making a cutting-edge film. This complex
but highly accessible film will be broadcast across the US (PBS is
interested), and possibly in Europe.
All proceeds go to film production and distribution! Q & A to follow with
strippers from the film.
