The Scotiabank Professorship for Research on Violence Against Women and
Children

        The Centre for Research on Violence Against Women and Children and
the Centre for Women's Studies and Feminist Research at The University of
Western Ontario invite applications for The Scotiabank Professorship for
Research on Violence Against Women and Children. A completed Ph.D in a
Social Sciences discipline, a national profile in anti-violence research
and scholarship with publications, a commitment to action-oriented
community-based research, and demonstrated experience in teaching
interdisciplinary Women's Studies are essential requirements for this
position.

The successful candidate will teach Feminist Theory and Practice in the
Social Sciences' and Feminist Perspectives on Violence Against Women' in
the Women's Studies program. The incumbent will be expected to maintain an
active research program in the field of violence against women and
children. Opportunities also exist to take a leading role in the on-going
research of The Centre for Research on Violence Against Women and Children
such as anti-violence education under a major project funded by the Ontario
Ministry of Education and Training, and anti-violence work in Costa Rica
funded by CIDA.

The Scotiabank professorship will be for 3-5 years, renewable,  at the rank
of assistant or associate professor. Current floor salaries for assistant
and associate professor are $45,000 and $52,000 respectively (under
contract negotiation). Research  assistance and start-up research support
are available to the successful candidate under the Scotiabank funding.

Deadline for applications is July 1, 1999, with the appointment effective
September 1, 1999. Applicants should send a letter of application with a
copy of their C.V., teaching evaluations, a sample of their scholarly
writing and three letters of reference to:
