[CubaNews] 2007 Anti-Slavery Award exposes modern-day slavery in the USA

Where did it all go wrong? First rigged elections, then illegal wars,
then torture, then gulags, then kidnapping, now slavery? What is the
world to make of the USA today? With a record on HR like this who but
the invisibly enslaved can take the global US propaganda against Cuba
seriously? "Be more like us" - I hope not. - SMcG.

*** 2007 Anti-Slavery Award***
***Wednesday 21st November at 7.30pm ***

Don't forget Anti-Slavery International will be holding it's annual
Award ceremony on Wednesday 21st November at 7.30pm.

This year's winner is the Coalition of Immokalee Workers for their
exceptional contribution towards tackling modern-day slavery in the
United States agricultural industry.

Over the past decade the CIW has uncovered, investigated and assisted
in the prosecution of six slavery cases, secured the release of 1000
Mexican and Guatemalan migrant farm workers held in slavery, and
successfully campaigned for corporate buyers to eliminate the
existence of forced labour within their supply chains, including
historical agreements with McDonalds and Taco Bell.

Please do come and show your support for these exceptional
grass-roots activists and learn about how you can help them with
their current campaign against Burger King.

Shahid Malik MP and Minister for the Department for International
Development will be presented with the 49,480 signatures we have
collected so far for the 1807-2007 Fight for Freedom Campaign, and he
will be talking about DFID's work to combat slavery worldwide.

Everyone is welcome but please register your attendance by emailing
g.wolfes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or calling 020 7501 8936.

For more information, please see

We hope to see you there!
