Re: [Critical-Realism] The way forward
Dear all,
I think it's great that there has been this period of reflection on how the
list might re-focus over the next period, and I also think the ideas put
forward are all good ones.
If we did RTS, that would be a great grounding for newcomers and doubtless
helpful for the old lags too. If we did DPF, that would be good in terms of
exploring a debate which still needs to be pursued about the links between
early and dialectical CR. If we did a JCR article, that would plug us into
current innovative work and highlight the excellent work produced in the
journal.
Personally, I'd favour some kind of structured approach where we had, let's
say, a JCR article every quarter of the year, and alongside that discussion
of DPF or RTS. If Mervyn were prepared to lead that, I would be happy to
chip in.
Finally, a word as President of IACR: Mervyn is too reluctant to promote
JCR. Apart from its excellence as a journal, it is the gateway to
membership of IACR, since joining and subscribing are linked through the
new publisher Equinox. We really need to encourage people to join IACR (and
get the journal) so that we can support and promote CR activities
throughout the world. So I'd be in favour of highlighting what is in the
journal and encouraging people to subscribe and therewith to join IACR. We
need people, expecially list contributors, to join IACR.
All best,
Alan
