Re: BHA: Critical realism and Luhmann

Ryan

I have written interpreting Maturana's autopoiesis in a critical
realist way.

I have also written about Luhmann from an at least implicit critical
realist perspective.

See the following:

Mingers, J., Self-Producing Systems: Implications and Applications of
Autopoiesis, Plenum Press, New York., 1995. Especially chs 7, 8, 9

Mingers, J., "Can social systems be autopoietic? Assessing Luhman's
social theory," Sociological Review, 50, 2, (2002), 278-299.

Mingers, J., "A critical evaluation of Maturana's constructivist family
therapy," Systems Practice, 10, 2, (1997), 137-151.

Mingers, J., "Information, meaning and communication: an autopoietic
approach to linking the social and individual," Cybernetics and Human
Knowing, 6, 4, (1999), 25-42.

Mingers, J., "Observing organizations: An evaluation of Luhmann's
theory of organizations," In Autopoietic Organization Theory: Drawing on
Niklas Luhmann's Social Systems Perspective, T. Hernes and T. Bakken
(Ed.), Copenhagen Business School Press, Copenhagen, 2002,

Does anyone know of critical realist commentary on Niklas Luhmann's
sociology,
or on notions of autopoiesis, self-reference, systems theory, etc.?
Cheers
