RE: BHA: causal bearers in the social world
Here's an example building on Howard's example:
Situation 1: We're on the subway riding to work, and Jack says, "Who read
Chapter 1 of Capital?" Nobody responds. Then Jack says, "All right, who
didn't?" Nobody responds.
Situation 2: We're in a classroom filled with students except for Jill, who
is the teacher of the course, Introduction to Marxist Economics. Jill says,
"Who read Chapter 1 of Capital?" About ten students respond by raising their
hands. Then Jill says, "All right, who didn't?" Almost all the remaining
students respond by raising their hands.
Here the teacher-student relation has causal powers.
