I'm certainly an absolute beginner at using a mailing list. I'm not even
sure if this will reach anyone! Computers came in while I was in India,
and I still haven't caught up. Guess my teenagers will help me one day.

I'm very interested in what you're doing Ismail. I sent a 60 page
document to Mervyn this morning, on similar issues. I tend to follow
what Bhaskar argues in "Scientific Realism and Human Emancipation",
pages 180-211 by memory especially. I'll try attaching the document to
you directly.
