Just to follow up Jan's reply to your question about stratified absences,
another example might be somebody's lack of a job, which (say) arises from
the lack of an adequate market for a particular business, which in turn
arises from (say) the lack of a viable distribution and transportation
infrastructure, etc etc until we get to the lack of balanced and rational
production in a global economy and the lack of real democracy in
international and domestic political structures, both of which arise from
capitalism, with all the lacks and absences inherent to it.

And profit provokes people to plunge into the "perilous pit" of protracted
patience with power.

Sorry.  The boy can't help it.  Genetics.
