Dear folks:
i thought i would finally contibute to the list... so, here it goes:
it seems to me from what I have studied so far from CR and philosophy in general is that CR attempts to return to philosophical, sociological, cultural, economic, etc. debates the importance of ontology (eg.--a REAL ontology as opposed an implied ontology offered by Hume, which really isn't an ontology if you think about it), an aspect that has gradually been less emphasized since Descartes and the growing fetishism with epistemology in the last few centuries. So, for example, postmodernism has seemingly won in academic circles, because all we can know is appearances filtered through langauge. In the "real world", however, if you ask a taxi driver whether his taxi is "real" he will say "hell ya." Someone asked me, why is this "recovery" of ontology so important if ontology in the real world is alive and well and is only in crisis within a miniscule sector/sphere of the population? What do you guys think?
