Greetings from the picket line! I've been out of the loop because I've been
on strike for over 4 weeks!
[Our union, CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees) Local 3903, is made up
of grad student TA's and course directors, part-time and contract faculty
and research assistants at York University, in Toronto. We have had
incredible support from faculty, students and others -- and I think that
we're going to win -- but so far we're still out. Anyone who is in a
position to send letters of support, either to us or to the administration,
please send me a note off-line!]
I wanted to pipe in on the thread regarding Israel. My feeling is that we
have managed to get along for years as an academic list, primarily concerned
with the task of reading, interpreting and assessing Roy Bhaskar's books.
It's probably the surest sign of all that I have no life, but that
ridiculously narrow focus works quite well for me! I think that it would be
a bad idea to pursue the line of debate introduced by Carroll.
