1.  I think it was an excellent act, but that doesn't mean I did it myself, or can claim credit for it.  If I was the only real communist in the SF Bay Area we would all be in a lot of trouble.

2.   And who on planet Earth gives a fuck about some Trot having a little gentlemanly doctrinal dispute with one of his Lenin mummy co-religionists?  This is the sort of thing that makes you feel good -- and it communicates absolutely nothing effective to anybody.

The International Brigades were a key element of the counter-revolutionary intervention of Stalinist Russia in the Spanish Civil War.  The idea that the contemporary, probably Situationist-influenced revolutionaries who did this should have refrained from doing it for fear of pushing the buttons of some well-intentioned and wholly deluded elderly folks out there in retired Stalinism-land is fucking ridiculous.

There should be a monument to the defeat of the 1936 revolution out there instead of this sculptural panygeric to counter-revolution, police terror, capitalist exploitation, the state, and imperialist war.  Perhaps this vandalism is exactly that...

Met Hemingway when he came over there during the Civil War, found him a boorish asshole.
  I've argued with Stalinists, elderly (with their wits still about them, unlike Hilda these last few yrs.) and younger for decades. This spraypainting isn't an argument it is pure juvenile BS.
