Friends, I am a Post -Capitalist of 68 winters who has been waiting for some concerted action to find the better alternative to Capitalism for some time. I do use a capital letter when writing the name of the system which has proved its unworthiness, only because I know we must respect our enemy, and not underestimate it.
But I have a warning: people will not embrace a system if they cannot read its principles, and see it successfully in operation.
Criticism of our powerful, but misguided, adversaries must take a secondary place to the establishment of successful communities based on co-operation and sustainability. Any progressive group that bases its work on opposition, resistence and criticism will fail. Positive substance in a movement is needed if it is to succeed and to inspire people to embrace it.
Truly 'centralisation of power' and 'economic efficiency' are the false gods to be avoided. The common wealth of Humanity should be the guide to our actions.
In short, the fundamental matter is to get the philosophy right. A successful Post-Capitalist system will not be a materially satisfying one, but a philosophically balanced one. A fair, and co-operative, culture is one with most possibility of survival, but only if it sees itself as part of nature, and not its master.
While I, personally, do not travel to overseas conferences, I will however, be able to participate in the development of Post-Capitalist philosophy. Thus, I would like to be put in touch with other PGA thinkers.
Best Wishes for the Conference,
Robin Gaskell
