They didn't interfere with the independence movement, except for that time
they helped kill 3,000 workers, although we don't really know what happened
since every US administration since then has stonewalled, even refusing to
answer South Korean inquiries... Sheesh...

Besides, I would have thought that the Korean working class was the avatar
of itself, not Kim Dae Jung.
