Every time someone pronounces on the stupidity
(etc) of voters casting for the Right, they do
little more than reassure themselves of their own
intelligence (etc) while indicating again one of
the reasons why those votes are cast as they are.
Bush, unlike the Democrats, shows no such disdain
for -- and self-importance in relation to -- the
"toxic wastes" between the Apalachians and the
Sierra Nevada.

If Marx was wrong about the inherent progressivism
of capitalism (and I think that he was); he was
nonetheless quite right in taking issue not just
with religion but also with the limits of atheism
as a response to and analysis of it.  I'm really
not persuaded that US politics has only just
embraced millenarianism, retributive justice,
racism, homophobia ...

And, what "implosion" are we talking about,
exactly?  Seems to me the "implosion" is in the
Left's expectations (the expectation that Bush
wouldn't win again; Howard wouldn't win again),
most of which were based on the wacky notion that
politics (any politics, including the Left's) is a
rational affair.

Eg: Democracy presupposes violence?  Oh my gosh,
what a surprise!
