my bad...

there were actually two sheiks.  The Iron Sheik reigned supreme through the 1980s.  For the first gulf war it was actually Sheik Adnan el Kaissey.  Perhaps I got them confused because they were virtually identical, each practicing a famous move called the "Camel Clutch".
