easier said than done. maybe he elaborates through the interview. However, I think that the movement is in crisis not solely because of "external" circumstances, but also because of "internal" power struggles (recognizing that the internal/external metaphor is quite limited).
>From my perspective, over here in British Columbia, I think we are witnessing the reassertion of a liberal hegemony over the movement. For a few years, there was a rising tide of militance, which has been largely swept away through a liberal Popular Frontism. The "Anybody-But-Bush" fervour has actually swept over to Canada, where a neoliberal government has been building momentum. Thus, in British Columbia we are witnessing a sort of "Anybody-But-Campbell" (our provincial premier) movement, which pushes back towards electoralism and Third Way governments to solve our problems.
This is also reflected in an attempt to organize a Northwest Social Forum in Seattle, featuring prominant liberal anti-globalizers, which fell apart because many groups didn't not feel included in the organizing; just like the ESF, it seems.
Negri's analysis here seems superficial. Lets end the war and lets build continental organizations and lets build a New Deal. This argument seems hopelessly liberal, failing to acknowledge power struggles within the movement and the cooptation of struggle by those who have consolidated power through trade unions and NGOs, and who very often are privileged enough to fly to far-off places and build coalitions with other bureaucratic mandarins from around the world.
