Doug, that's classic - had I been there they would have said, "who's
that big guy laughing so loud at the back?"
But it seems that the problem she raised in referring to Badiou as "a
rich man" is one of class, not gender. Which raises an interesting
question - how many of the 'academic lumpenproletariat' (the teaching
assistants, casual tutors, etc - the academic reserve army) gave
papers? Maybe they were invited - I know I've been invited to many
things - but were not financially able to take up the invitation.
