Re: AUT: another view of the ESF

I think there needs to be a health warning attached to the original
post of this thread. The Revolutionary communist party (RCP) was a
small Trot group in the UK in the late 1980's early 1990's. Any
british activists from that time will remember these arrogant
students, always taking contradictory positions from the rest of the
left as a way of standing out in the crowded Trot marketplace. They
were totally dogmatic and fucked up. I remember before one large
antifascist march the RCP picketed the coaches going down to it;
saying: "You shouldn't make demands on the state to close down
fascist bookshops." Of course we weren't demanding anything. We were
going there to tear the bookshop down ourselves and when the police
tried to stop us a large riot ensued. Anyway they became more and
more right wing until they dissolved themselves into a 'secret'
network of journalists and academics who try and hold positions of
influence. Their activities are co-ordinated through the 'think tank'
the "institute of ideas", which receives funding from the big
business (particularly big oil companies) to rubbish environmental
activists. This history brings up two things: Firstly, how do groups
swing from left to right. We can see a simliar process with the
anti-German groups but also some of the original Neo-cons started off
as Trotskyists. Secondly when you read the shit in the original post
you must bear in mind that the guy is being paid to write this stuff
with the intention of disrupting our movements.
