RE: AUT: RE: Fwd: [FSE-ESF] The Truth about Sunday

: here, where the complaint against Mr.

: the 'anarchists' cooperate with the
: forum.

Thiago, I think you might want to go read some of
the stuff on the ESF in more detail. The link
Steve sent through is jampacked with detail. But
specifically: a) I can't see anywhere where that's
what the complaint was; b) the Babelites, who did
much more than cooperate with the ESF, were
scathing -- which is by way of suggesting that
your take on what happened there is a little
wanting.

And, you know, there's a difference between 'I
hope Bush wins' and 'I don't reckon the prospect
of Bush winning is enough to make me support
Kerry.' Just as what happened at the ESF isn't
reducible to 'trots v anarchs.' Or whether the US
maintains a military presence in Iraq is wholly
determined by what happens in US politics -- there
are a myriad of factors, not all of which require
imagining that elections and political parties
exhaust political action.

My fave comment on the indy.ie page was 'police
liaison - another level of repression is
possible.' The point being that forms of
political control and repression aren't abandoned
by liberal and socdem politics, they're
refashioned (often made more internal or
proximate). It's not a question of better or
worse. It's a question, imo, of different
modalities. I don't feel sufficiently panicked
into supporting socdem or liberal politics. Nor
do I think it's possible to say, eg, that Latham's
predicted assault on the unemployed was going to
be better than Howard's. One does what one has to
do (survive against those assaults, for one),
irrespective of whether Labor of the LibNats are
in Government.

Anyway, the whole ESF thing has been ditzy from
the outset. The attempts by particular people or
groups to preen themselves as the 'thinkers' of
the movements around the anti-summit protests is
belly-clutching laughable -- a symptom of the
demise of those movements, nothing more.
