But hasn't the messiness of the occupation shown some of the limits
to unilateral U.S. power, and the importance of unity among the major
imperial powers? And by pushing the unilateralism so hard, hasn't the
Bush admin undermined the legitimacy of U.S. power with both elites
and masses around the world? It's like the Bush admin was lost in
some 19th century dream of colonial conquest but the 21st century has
caught up with them.
