Re: AUT: RE: antiwar movement

"God, and I thought having to worry about Trots and Islamists dominating the
anti-war movement (as in South Africa) was bad."

same problem in France. The main "antiwar coalition" is led by SWP local
branch - now a part of LCR - and in strong links with muslim associations -
and not the most progressive ones. But each time they are asked about the
worker or the women movement in Iraq, they began to be very aggresive.
What's curious for a former third camp group, is that they adopt an
unilateral point of view : everything that is against US is good. Recently,
in a meeting, a kind militant of Pacifist union asked them about women
movements : he was angrily answered that as US said that he come there to
support women, any support to women is pro-imperialist. No comment...

The problem is what's to be called an antiwar movement. Doing demonstrations
is a thing - but after all, in france, after one month and a half of public
sector strike and demonstrations, nothing has changed, even if right left
elections six month after... The main question is how to concretely
challenge war, and how to challenge occupation in Iraq. I remember it was
our question, in my town autonomous collective, during both Afghan and Iraq
war. We said No war, no borders, and supported a quite successfull call for
a school strike movement against war launched by school girls comrades - but
we also always clamed ou support to workers and womens in Afghanisatna or
Iraq. And feeled it was somewhat abstract, because we never meet any afghan
or iraqi worker :)That why we took contact with Worker-communist party of
Iraq, and now are in close links with them. It's, for us, a more concrete
way to suppport fight against occupation in Iraq in a worldist and socialist
point of view and attitude.
