I remember being told  -- I think it was by folks in the then October League
whom I knew -- that the language was necessary because it was "scientific."
scientistic would be better (a phrase I heard via Les Levidow and the radical
science folks - as in the trappings, e,g, some language, or a purported
science that isn't.
