AUT: the meaning of coded language (pol, cdes, lib-lab, etc) is sectarianism and abandonment of a serious attitude toward politics

I have been following some of these threads.  I don't usually say
much as I am quite pressed for time.

But I can't resist on this.

I view the use of cryptic semi-religious political abbreviations
(pol, cdes, lib-lab, etc) as clear evidence of a religious
sectarian mentality.

I have expressed my views on this many times in the past to
Neil (the most consistent user of sectarian coded language).
Neil and I actually know each other, having both supported the
Marxist-Leninst Party, USA prior to its dissolution in 1993.

I believe that part of the motivation behind developing such a
private coded language is to impress people: "make them work hard
to figure out what you are saying, make them feel stupid for not
understanding your words--that's the ticket".

What the use of such language really shows however, is great
arrogance--and contempt for the reader that you are supposedly
trying to win over or influence.

As such, the use of coded language is a self-defeating tactic
(most activists instinctively sense the highly manipulative
nature of this kind of pretentiousness) and represents a form of
disguised passivity in the struggle of serious comrades against
the political influence of liberal-labor politics.
