As far as I can see the Stop the War Coalition in the
U.K. is precisely the kind of so-called "popular front"
you say you object to. You only have to look at the list of the
speakers at the last ralley to discover that. The various
Leninist groups and parties have in my experience always
been among the initiators to invite in "the liberals,"
the MPs, bishops, mullahs, retired NATO generals, union
bureaucrats, TV celebrities etc At the same time they
have always sabotaged the participation of social
revolutionaries from Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Afghanistan,
from the late Yugoslavia, and so on. This kind of
"popular frontism" precisely grows out of the "anti-
imperialist" ideology, where capitalism as such is
never confronted, is not connected to workers lives
at home grown, and we end up each time with some
kind of tired, old anti-American populism: The "good
capitalists" -- whether liberals or fascists -- against
the "bad capitalists".
