Some good stuff here...
Anti-war train drivers refuse to move arms freight
Thursday January 9, 2003
The Guardian
Train drivers yesterday refused to move a freight
train carrying ammunition believed to be destined for
British forces being deployed in the Gulf.
Railway managers cancelled the Ministry of Defence
service after the crewmen, described as "conscientious
objectors" by a supporter, said they opposed Tony
Blair's threat to attack Iraq...
Leaders of the Aslef rail union were pressed at a
meeting with EWS executives to ask the drivers to
relent. But the officials of a union opposed to any
attack on Iraq are unlikely to comply...
Dockers went on strike rather than load British-made
arms on to ships destined for Chile after the
assassination of left-wing leader Salvador Allende in
1973. In 1920 stevedores on London's East India Docks
refused to move guns on to the Jolly George, a ship
chartered to take weapons to anti-Bolsheviks after the
Russian revolution...
Lindsey German, convener of the Stop the War
Coalition, said: "We fully support the action that has
been taken to impede an unjust and aggressive war. We
hope that other people around the country will be able
to do likewise."

HANDS OFF VENEZUELA!
An appeal to the international Labour Movement
Full appeal at
http://www.marxist.com/appeals/hands_off_venezuela.html
The situation in Venezuela is reaching a critical
point. The mass media have put in circulation the lie
that this is a "general strike" supported by the
workers of Venezuela against an unpopular government.
There is absolutely no truth in this. In reality what
we are seeing is a campaign of organised sabotage
designed to destabilise the country and prepare the
way for a right wing coup d'etat...
We appeal to you to raise this matter urgently in your
trade union and Labour Party branch. Send messages of
support to Venezuela and protest to the US embassy
about its continued interference in the internal
political affairs of Venezuela. Send letters to the
press and to the British government, demanding that it
does not support US aggression against Venezuela.
The youth must add its voice to the protest. Every
youth and student organisation must mobilise to
denounce the aggression against the Venezuelan
revolution.
Anyone who wishes to add their signature to this
appeal can do so by writing to Jorge Martin at:
handsoffvenezuela@xxxxxxxxxxx
This appeal has been signed by the following trade
union leaders, shop stewards and activists and also
left wing party activists from the following
countries...[long list of names from many countries
(not just the UK) follows, check the URL to see it]
