Re: AUT: Three viewpoints on Venezuela and revolution

Thiago, would you support the bloc that workers made
with Chavez to defeat the CIA's April coup? The
ultra-left (as opposed to the Chavezite) anarchist
text I posted seems to argue against this bloc. But I
think that the coup, which briefly put the head of
Venezuela's Chamber of Commerce in power, would have
been a disaster had it not been broken, just as
Pinochet's coup was a disaster for Chilean workers.
I think that you've argued here for the defence of
Cuba against US aggressions like the Bay of Pigs, and
that would seem to be another real parrallel.

If we can agree that stopping the coup was worthwhile,
and we have no illusions in Chavez of the type held by
Al Giordano, then what position can we settle on?
Perhaps permanent revolution is not so much the best,
as better than the others?

You argue that a military bloc is in practice
indistinguishable from a political bloc, ie that
permanent revolution is the same as Stalinist two
stage revolution. If this is true, then the future is
bleak indeed - perhaps the UN really is the best bet.
I think it's worth having a look, though, at some
situations where the two strategies have played
themselves out, starting with the Chinese Revolution
of 1925-27, where two stage and permanent revolution
faced off very clearly in the arguments over a
military versus political bloc between the Chinese
Communists and Chiang Kai Shek.

Cheers
Scott
