"Harald, as I understand it your position throughout
this debate ..."

Why not try to read what I say. That I argue for raising
the demand of full and equal citizens rights is wholly
corrrect, also that I propose promoting the idea of an
East Mediterranean federation. That is putting the whole
conflict in a non-nationalist and anti-nationalist
perspective that should be self-evident for anybody
calling him or herself a socialist.
I said nothing about disarment. I have however
spoken briefly on how I view random killings through
suicide bombings. If you are so worried about
Sharon, so should you. But you are in effect his allied
as well as of Zionism as such. Just as Hamas and
the Ba'th regimes in Syria and Iraq are.

And just so that it said once again. I am not promoting
the creation of a *capitalist* East Mediterranean
federation. But I am none the less convinced that such a
federation, should it materialize in any near future (let
say within 10 years) almost certainly would de facto
be capitalist. The advance of non- and anti-nationalist,
secular, and as far as possible also anti-hierarchical
movements throughout the region, would however also
for the first time provide a real social and ideological
basis for the emergence of a genuine social
revolutionary movement within the working classes
of this part of the world.

There are no gurantees attached. But getting out of the
blind alley of statist nationalism and religious
fundamentalism that have brought the working classes nothing
but defeat after defeat for decade after decade will
in any circumstances be a crucial step forward.
As for now, the celebration of defeat has pretty much
become, or more correct, has long been, the offical
ideology of populist Arab nationalism. That so many
"Western" leftist find this just fine, says a lot.

Harald
