Nate, much of what you talk about is happening also in Boston - not every
detail, but the general push is the same. I expect nationally.

BTW, it affects schools as well, as Chicago for example closes some schools
serving low-income students, then reopens them as "magnet" schools often with
test-based entrance requirements, to serve middle-class people. Like housing,
part of gentrification that drives poor out. A woman named Pauline Lippman
has written some analyses of this process in Chicago, I think she is a prof
at a university in Chicago. And I work with folks there and so get lots of
dirt on that city's educational games.
