Adrian,
Have you read Yann Moulier-Boutang's biography of Althusser? Is there
anything in there that helps explain the shift you mention? Moulier has
access to all of Althusser's materials (letters, notebooks, books,
concerning every aspect of his life, therapy, etc.) He is his literary
executor and, I might add, a friend and translator of Toni Negri.
