Just to corroborate what Steve is saying,  my
encounters with Rifondazione Communista indicate that
they are a hodgepodge, but certainly to the Left of
the old PCI....trotskyists, etc.  Whatever their
shortcomings may be, their parliamentary members were
among the most vocal in denouncing the
police/government actions in Genova last Summer...or
so, it seemed to me when reviewing the minutes of the
Italian parliament at the time.
