I guess I should explain myself. The 'From the Wilderness' piece was sent to
another pro-revolutionary list I'm on by someone who I respect and is also
on this list. I have to admit I haven't yet read the whole thing, but the
first few paragraphs looked interesting and relate to a line of thought I am
trying to pursue. Namely the strange state of the world in the last year or
so as seen in: 1) A huge wave of proletarian struggle (eg. general strikes
in Nigeria, Italy and Spain, the ongoing struggle in Argentina, massive
upheaval in most other South American countries etc etc) that is mostly of a
defensive nature. 2) The "War Against Terrorism" as cover for a much broader
militarisation of class relations. 3) Enron and Worldcom collapsing 4) The
continuing stagnation of the Japanese economy.

I'm working on an article trying to tie some of this stuff together,
hopefully I'll post a draft here in the next week or so.

I don't think economic crisis is a necessary prerequisite for revolt but it
is certainly interesting.
