Has anyone here read "The Conquest of Cool"? Individuality, greater personal
authenticity and rebellion have been hot property for a long, long time... It
would be nice to imagine that these were values which people had carved for
themselves and were then stolen by PR goons, but unfortunately the whole
"individuality, rebellion, authenticity" mantra has been around in advertising
since the late 50s, before, then, most of us fried our brains.
Just saying this as a salvo against this "oh no, the capitalists are stealing
our thoughts!" stuff, which borders on self-parody at times...
