<DIV>I don't know. I think that the line between the facts on the surface available to all and the not-yet-exposed processes is a fairly blurry one. Firstly, I feel that individual surface level facts are often reified appearances that mask a complex of system of underlying material processes/practices which must be exposed if we want any critical reflection to take place on the actions that we are engaging in. Of course, I'm not going to provide a detailed description of all the hopes and fears of activists. I'm more interested in the distinct and everchanging conceptual toolbox and its relation to material processes. I have no intention of providing detailed description of the cognitive processes that activists undertake in organizing action. The method itself is simply a means of accessing the concepts that activists draw upon differently in organizing actions. Cooptation by the State is certainly a major concern, however, by focussing on concepts rather than providing detailed accounts of organizing practices, by focussing on transformation rather than searching for a static set of cognitive processes, and by making all participants partners in the research I feel that this project will be of very little use to the State and will not include anything of relevance that they do not already know... I don't know. Maybe I'm just naive...</DIV>
