Plekhanov, Lenin and Engels pose the question in this way too, as matter
preceding consciousness.  The old antinomy of being vs.
consciousness/materialism vs. idealism has an old and hoary legacy.  It is
exactly what Marx broke with, in transcending the division of materialism
and idealism.  So I don't see how this positing of being as prior to
consciousness is not just a continuation of the same old thing.

Also, the focus on the Real is not impressive, but radically bourgeois in so
far as it focuses on Being, on Ontological issues, on the constant
infatuation with the non-transcendability of 'is-ness' which is the
infatuation with capital and its infinity.
