London
21 February 2002

Dear Friends,

A brief and formal letter. This will be followed by another letter shortly,
giving an account of our meeting.

Our Paris seminar "Class Composition in Cognitive Capitalism" was very
successful and most enjoyable. Original and challenging work was presented,
and the cross-fertilisation and sharing of ideas was most stimulating.

We have a sense that we are embarked on a venture that will produce serious
results in the future, contributing in major fashion to ongoing political
debates.

The papers from the seminar will be collected, and will be made available on
our website at: http://www.geocities.com/CognitiveCapitalism. It is intended
that we shall also produce a book, once all the materials have been gathered
in.

We are also constructing an Archive section on that website, of useful
materials.

Our future plans are as follows. The seminar will become an annual event. We
shall meet in Paris every year, in Mid-February. We shall also organise
nomadic seminars (probably one per year), to take the discussion to other
cities.

The timetable for the next 3 meetings is as follows:

1. A nomadic seminar to be held in ROME in the middle-to-end of September
2002. At this seminar we shall connect with the work being done the journal
Posse and by Toni Negri and his associates. TITLE STILL TO BE CONFIRMED.

2. A seminar to be held in PARIS (the regular annual event) on the second or
third weekend of February 2003. On the subject of CLASS COMPOSITION IN
COGNITIVE CAPITALISM.

3. A seminar to be held in CAMBRIDGE in the second week of March 2003, on
the subject of THE PRODUCTION OF SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE.

Since our intention is to extend our contacts as far as possible, can I ask
you to FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO ANYBODY YOU THINK MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN OUR
FUTURE DISCUSSIONS.

[PS: Incidentally, these meetings are part of a wide-ranging programme of
seminars which I have been organising. They take place under the general
rubric of the Free University / Universitas Adversitatis.]

[PPS: As promised on Saturday, here is the address of the website created by
one of our contributors. I recommend a visit, to brighten your day. It can
be found at http://www.dechiotification.org]

With best regards,

Ed Emery
