Dear Ben,
as a delegate of Czech section to that Plennary, I must note, that reasons
for this decision, which was far away from unanimity, were principially
different. Please do not take as granted every kind of rumour, being spread
by some, who constantly attack our International.
As far as I know, decision to say no to ASF affiliation has got nothing to
do with I99 and nothing to do with anarchosyndicalism.org. These matters
were not stated by any of member sections as valid reasons.
Reasons for most sections said no, while several abstained, as we did, are
different.
Firstly, I think sections did not obtain almost any communication from you,
which was thought to be quite important, because many people from distant
IWA sections do not know you at all and must have some materials to study.
It is not enough just to come to Congress and claim membership. People from
Eastern Europe for instance had no previous information that someone from
Australia, claiming membership shall be coming. The 2002 Plennary was
therefore given extraordinary powers to solve this question. But during
2001 year, we had almost no communication from Australia and abstention
position
of several member sections is just reason of this.
Secondly, there is rather disgusting recent case there, when ASF members
called the Police (!!!) to get rid of one Melbourne ABC anarchist comrade,
with whom they were in conflict. This case has not been answered by ASF,
despite it was one of the worst imaginable "sins" against principles of
anarchism/anarchosyndicalism - to use the Police against each other, thus
approving the legitimity of the Police existence. As far as I know, there
is no ASF statement available, no explanation, no reasoning and of course no
apology, because to call the Police against fellow anarchist (whatever he
might be annoying or foolish person, I do not know) clearly puts those who
called the bastards, out of the anarchist workers movement community. There
is just one very short e-mail message, saying, that ABC-Melbourne activist
is police informant, but still it is just stated, no substantial evidences
are provided.
The situation according my estimate was rather about sectons having not
enough information to approve your affiliation, than enough materials to
kick you out (with exception possibly of 1-2 sections, who took the
Melbourne Police incident really seriously). Moreover, I still instist that
your silence about that disgusting case from Melbourne, has done a great
harm to you inside the IWA.
By the way - and this is my personal opinion - the problems connected with
anarchosyndicalism.org is rather that you cannot simply take "non partisan",
"no-opinion" position between real anarchosyndicalism and phoney reformist
and state-sponsored "revolutionary syndicalism" of SAC, CGT(E) and other
organisations, not run by workers, but by bureaucrats and interests far
away from interersts of our class. You must always take clear position
towards
reformism and those, who sell out our idea for full-time well paid posts
and/or state financial subsidies. If you do not manage to make this clear,
well, your position is very distant from that of the IWA. Exactly as there
can be no peace among social classses, there can be no peace among
revolutionaries and those who collaborate with the State or even unionize
and/or cooperate with members of state repressive forces - as in the case
of Spanish CGT and Catalan Police (mozos de escuadra) or prison guards.
Yours sincerely
with anarchist-communist greetings
Petr Wohlmuth
