this is only sorta related... and not so much renunciation as...

well, there is something to be said for minimalist aesthetics, and (in a
completely different sense) the notion of minimizing one's negative impact
on everyone and everything around you.

and many (and not just buddhists and whatnot) have aruged that this kind of
"simplicity" actually opens up greater possibilities for "mak[ing] [our]
lives richer [with] more beauty, more creativity, more chances to realize
themselves", etc. (tho i'm suspicious of the phrase "realize themselves"...)

at any rate: i know i'm more likely to be moved by an agnus martin painting
than a hieronimous botch painting... but then again, maybe this (my) love of
minimalism is more due to being inundated by the noise and chaos of
capitalist society... as some have argued.
