You supply convincing evidence that Russia has won
some concessions from the US in return for cooperation
in the war. I certainly think the way that countries
the US has armtwisted over the war have tried to win
concessions in return for cooperation is an important
part of the post-S 11 picture.
What I think Phil would complain about, and what I
certainly complain about, is the huge leap from the
claim that Russia has won some concessions to the
claim that Russia is somehow becoming anything
remotely like a rival to the US. It is not unfair to
link Russia's destitution to the question of its
status or otherwise as a rival to the US: if it really
becoming a significant player, then it would likely be
enjoying some decent economic growth and sponsoring,
at the very least, a labour aristocracy.
My suspicion is that

This is as silly as the claim you are criticising. You
should have a look at the magazine Phil cowrites,
'revolution', which is online in an unorganised kind
of way at www.revolution.org.nz
The politics of 'revolution' have been described as
'like Living Marxism with a class analysis attached'.
Quite different to the Trotskyism which I think LP
holds to.
I'll have another look at the interview and get back
on the rest. You might like to give us a take on the
Cuba POWs issue compatible with the post-imperialist
thesis.
Cheers
Scott
