Re: AUT: An interesting critique of Negri

This question of the relationship of language, and its difficulty, to theory comes up quite often. I always considered that the notorious difficulty of the language of poststructuralism and some postmodernism was indicative of theoretical weakness, mixed with a certain amount of pretension. One the other hand, people have said the same about the difficulty of some of Roy Bhaskar's writing, which I don't see in quite the same way. Wouldn't Marx's contemporaries found some of his writing very difficult too? Can you ever get away from this problem? I tend to think not, because one has to use a language that is to some extent a critique and a supercession of everyday language that has become ossified and riddled with all sorts of 'commonsense' assumptions. But on the other hand careers also get made by impressing people with erudition and 'intellectualism', the problem I had with a great deal of French theory of the 60s and 70s.

Incerting concepts like 'multitudes' and others smells with elitism if
not worse.

It was a bit of effort to get used to the new Jargon and discover
that it does not include much new wisdom as it pretend.
