Premier Public Screening of Rock, Paper, Missiles -
A new documentary about the Conflict in Palestine/Israel
Screening, Talk, and Discussion to be held at the Donnell Library
Paper Tiger TV (PTTV) and the Media Accuracy Project/Middle East (MAP-ME)
are presenting a video screening and discussion about the current conflict
in Palestine/Israel, featuring a new documentary produced by PTTV and
MAP-ME. Lucy Mair (Center for Economic and Social Rights) and Professor
Joseph Massad (Assistant Professor, MEALAC Department, Columbia University,
and Assistant Editor of the Journal of Palestine Studies) will address the
audience following the screening.
The event will take place at the Donnell Library/Media Center (20 West 53rd
Street) on Thursday, February 22, 2001 from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Admission is
free. Paper Tiger TV is a nonprofit, volunteer, video collective that
analyzes and critiques issues involving media, culture, and politics. PTTV
produces and distributes the Paper Tiger public access television series,
conducts media literacy and hands-on video production workshops, and
actively organizes around progressive political issues.
The conflicts between Palestinians and Israelis, as reported in the US
media, confound many Americans as much as they seem to raise the emotions
of those involved. Many of us, with little information to go on, are led to
believe that the conflict is one of religious or ethnic hatreds - but is
this true? What is the basis
and history of the conflict in Palestine/Israel? Why is Israel the largest
recipient of US aid in the world? Why are Palestinians throwing ROCKS at
Israeli soldiers armed with bullets and MISSLES? Are we getting the full
picture from the US mainstream PAPERS?
