Re: AUT: Re: Marxism not worth defending

Fabian Tompsett, I see what is your concern. I think
however you would be better served by critisizing
concrete political positions and perspectives, as well
as particular groups or miliues than some abstraction
anyone may put what they want into, like "the anarchist
movement" (does really such an animal exist?) or some
undefined "anarchism". As I basically think we agree
in substance, I've got nothing more to add.

Just one more comment though.
You write:
It is currently unclear whether the Mayday
conference in London will be limited anarchists.
The event is decribed as a festival of "anarchist
ideas and action". As many of the ideas and
actions they want to discuss often actually
originally emerged elsewhere, it is to be hoped
that the discussion wont be restricted to how
these ideas have been derived in anarchist
circles. The previous conferences at Bradford
(1998) and Glasgow (1999) defined themselves
        more broadly.

I cannot answer your question as I don't live in the
U.K. It sounds like a political mess. Knowing what
some milieus in the U.K. (not at least the crypto-
fascist, or whatever, tendencies within the so-called
"Green Anarchists") are likely to put into the term
"anarchist ideas and action," the total openness
too all kinds of stupidities (as long as they wear a
circle A) on the one hand, and a seemingly closure to
milieus that would share most of the basic
assumptions of class struggle anarchists on the other
hand, this sounds more like a circus (migh be fun) than
anything else. But as I do not know what is being
planned, I cannot say for sure.
